Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You’re first eligible to sign up for Medicare 3 months before you turn 65. You may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Often referred to as Hospital coverage.
After a per occurrence deductible of $1,632 dollars in 2024,
Part A helps cover:
*Inpatient care in a hospital
*Skilled Nursing Facility care
*Hospice care
You may be charged additional copays, and coinsurance depending on service and length of stay.
This is why enrolling in a Medicare Supplement plan or a Medicare Advantage plan is so important. Either option offers many plans to choose from.
Often called Medical coverage or Outpatient coverage.
Part B has an annual deductible of $240 in 2024.
After that Medicare Part B will cover 80% for medically necessary outpatient services like:
*doctor's visits
*physical therapy
*home health services
*durable medical equipment
*mental health services
*chemo therapy and radiation
*other medical services provided as outpatient
Once Medicare pays their share, you typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount. There is no yearly limit on what you pay out of pocket if you have just Original Medicare Part A & Part B.
Again, enrolling in a Medicare Supplement plan or a Medicare Advantage plan will offer the needed financial protection.
If you, or a spouse, have worked in the U.S. for 40 quarters (10 years), or more, then enrolling in Medicare Part A will be available to you at no charge.
The Standard rate for Medicare Part B will be $174.70 in 2024.
Qualifying for MediCal may reduce or eliminate your cost for Medicare Part B.
High income earners will pay a larger portion of the total cost for Medicare Part B and a larger portion of the Prescription Drug Premium. Talk to your insurance agent to see if there is a way to lower your IRMAA payment.
