Dental plans are often named based on the maximum coverage offered by the insurance company.

"Happy Dental 3000" - means that the insurance company will pay up to $3,000 dollars per year towards preventive, basic and major dental treatment. Reading the summary of benefits and evidence of coverage will explain in greater detail the coverage.

Will implants or orthodontics be covered?Is there a waiting period?Are there pre-existing exclusions?

Then consider if you need coverage for cleanings twice a year, or if you need more major dental treatment in the next few years. This will help determine the level of coverage that makes the most sense for you.

Most, but not all, Medicare Advantage plans now offer some dental coverage for preventive dental care, at least. If major dental coverage is included, please consider if the amount that the insurance company will cover is enough.

HMO dental plans offer great financial coverage, but dentists that accepts those plans are more limited.
